“Access to information is already a crucial step forward to success!” - Shota Kopaliani, tea producer

16.10.2023 23:52

Hello,

I am Shota Kopaliani from Lechkhumi, specifically from the village of Chalistavi. I'm a mechanical engineer by profession, but currently, my focus is on cultivating and producing naturally sourced, organic teas made from wild plants. In my view, this direction is becoming more and more significant in the world.

My involvement in the bio sector became the primary basis for support from the European Union, Sweden, and Austria. In 2019, I became familiarised with the GRETA project, initiated by the forenamed donors, through the district counselling centre. I gained detailed and valuable information during the regional information meetings organised by the same project, which ultimately led me to decide to participate in the grant competition.

While formulating the project, I considered the issues within the production process that, once resolved, would lead to success. During that time, I needed a two-axle off-road vehicle for work because it was difficult to get crops out of the plantation. Additionally, having the tea leaf rolling machine (also known as the roller) was crucial for a smooth production process. Following my victory in the grant competition, I received the requested support. Consequently, production volumes soared, and the workload significantly eased.

Since I am discussing the assistance provided by donors, I must recognise our participation in international exhibitions abroad. For small entrepreneurs like us, international exhibitions present significant opportunities. Eight entrepreneurs featured Georgian organic tea at the 2022 Dubai Organic Products Exhibition.  In 2023 - three, including myself, garnered considerable interest and approval. Today, we are actively collaborating with potential clients to meet international standards.

Therefore, we plan to establish production stability in the foreign market while promoting our organic tea overseas. This endeavour is underpinned by the bio-certification of our products, which was made possible through the financial support of our donors. Lastly, I would like to express my appreciation for the training and workshops that equipped me with the necessary skills for effective business management.

In this short narrative of mine, there are already tangible benefits, including a production increase of almost ten times, thanks to the assistance received. This success gives me a powerful reason to offer advice to other small business owners: having access to information is crucial, as it marks the initial stride towards success. I recommend that they stay alert for any donor-supported grant programs. By following my example and sticking to instructions carefully, they, too, can seize an excellent opportunity for support.

I would also like to say that I am excited to collaborate on exciting projects and welcome opportunities. Please feel free to contact me via email: shotakop@gmail.com
